NEW YORK (AP) - Foggy weather is causing some delays at New York City’s main airports as throngs of holiday travelers try to get in and out of town, and a forecast for heavy rain could snarl travel further.

By midmorning Wednesday, Federal Aviation Administration data showed planes at John F. Kennedy International Airport were being delayed about 45 minutes to an hour at gates and on taxiways. Some arriving flights at LaGuardia Airport were running an average of about 20 minutes behind schedule.

The National Weather Service says the city could get gusty winds, downpours and thunderstorms Wednesday night.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says about 2.2 million passengers are expected to pass through JFK and 1 million through LaGuardia between Dec. 17 and New Year’s Day.
