ALTOONA, Iowa (AP) - Two people face neglect and drug charges after they and two children were found living in a filthy Altoona home.

Officials say investigators found a 3-year-old near an open, running oven and a 4-month-old sibling nearby. The investigators reported finding dirt, clothing, human feces and other items on floors, counters and furniture. The investigators also say they found marijuana.

The children were turned over to state authorities and the two adults who lived there were arrested on Monday.

Authorities say 25-year-old Christopher Whitfield and 25-year-old Jennifer Mills are charged with two counts of neglect or abandonment of a dependent person and three drug counts. Their attorneys didn’t immediately return calls Wednesday from The Associated Press.
