PITTSBURGH (AP) - Jurors will return after Christmas to resume deliberations in the trial of a western Pennsylvania woman charged with stealing a cancer-stricken man’s dog and having it euthanized.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1EfaLFn ) reports that the Allegheny County panel was unable to come to a verdict Tuesday in the theft and animal cruelty trial of 58-year-old Gisele Paris of Pittsburgh. Jurors will return for further deliberations Friday.

Paris doesn’t dispute having taken a Siberian husky named Thor from the backyard of Mark Boehler on Thanksgiving 2013 but says she was justified because she believed that the dog was neglected and suffering.

Boehler, who is diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer, says the dog had health problems but wasn’t suffering. Police said Paris paid a veterinarian to euthanize the dog in February.
