BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A Salvation Army bell ringer reported thieves took her red kettle outside a Billings Wal-Mart.

Billings Salvation Army Maj. Edward Markum estimates the bucket, which was stolen at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, contained close to $500.

Markum said police took a statement, but said there was little they could do.

The bell ringer said she was approached by two men who made small talk with her. She said they returned later and while one of them distracted her another took the bucket. Markum says the bell ringer was uninjured.

Markum is asking anyone with any information about the theft or who sees what appears to be a red kettle after Christmas to call police.
