LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A plan is in place to help the Lafayette Parish School Board start the year.

Interim Superintendent Burnell LeJeune and other district officials will host an orientation session for the board on Jan. 3, ahead of the board’s first meeting on Jan. 7.

LeJeune tells The Advertiser ( https://bit.ly/1A4TdYw ) the Jan. 3 session will be “very, very general” but will touch on a wide range of topics. Board members will get an overview of district policies, their responsibilities, system finances, curriculum matters and how each department functions. There also will be information on smaller issues, like what’s included in each member’s meeting packet and how they use the computer system to cast votes.

In January, seven of the nine school board members will start their first terms on the board.
