LAPEL, Ind. (AP) - Central Indiana police are seeking the public’s help in catching whoever toppled the gravestones of two Air Force veterans.

The toppled headstones were found Monday at Lapel’s Brookside Cemetery. Town police Capt. Michael Barnes tells The Herald Bulletin (https://bit.ly/1A55hZG ) police were working to contact relatives of the veterans whose graves were damaged.

He says the “level of disrespect” shown by whoever vandalized the graves is upsetting and he himself has relatives buried at that cemetery about 25 miles northeast of Indianapolis

Barnes says the vandal is believed to be a juvenile. He says that person is also believed responsible for spray-painting a wall and playground equipment at Lapel Elementary School.

An officer saw someone spray-painting at the school but that person fled on foot.
