SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Humane Society of Utah will be sending shelter dogs to warm homes for Christmas.

Nearly 40 pets will go home with volunteers for the holiday starting Wednesday afternoon.

Humane Society volunteer coordinator Lisa Burningham says in a statement that the dogs will leave their kennels and get some extra love in cozy homes for the holiday.

This is the fourth year for the program. All the dogs are available for adoption.
