AMITE, La. (AP) - Residents in the small Tangipahoa Parish town of Amite are cleaning up after a tornado that damaged several homes and downed trees and power lines.

No one was injured in Tuesday afternoon’s storm.

State police say most of the damage was on La. Highway 16 east of Amite.

National Weather Service meteorologists are in Amite onWednesday, trying to determine the strength of the tornado.

Entergy reports that just over 200 customers are still without power in the Amite area. The company does not have an estimated time when power would be restored.
