PHELPS, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a woman has died and a man is hospitalized after their car was broadsided at a western New York intersection by another vehicle driven by a man fleeing police.

Police in the Wayne County village of Newark tell local media that 47-year-old Todd Maddox fled police Tuesday afternoon after arguing with his ex-girlfriend outside a business and making threats.

The officer followed Maddox as he crossed into Ontario County, where he lost control of his car in the village of Phelps, 30 miles southeast of Rochester. The car hit another vehicle, killing the woman driving it, 45-year-old Jennifer Hurlburt, and injuring a male passenger.

Maddox is in guarded condition at a Rochester hospital. The other man is in satisfactory condition.

Maddox was charged with driving while impaired by drugs.
