RICHMOND, N.Y. (AP) - The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says seven fire departments were called out Christmas morning to fight a blaze that destroyed a barn and killed dairy cows in the town of Richmond, south of Rochester.
A passer-by called 911 shortly after 2:30 a.m. Thursday to report the fire on Big Tree Road. High winds fanned the flames and made it difficult to put the fire out.
The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (https://on.rocne.ws/1H0ppOF ) reports that Robert and Donald Hayton helped remove their mother, 78-year-old Carol Hayton, from the family home near the barn.
No one was hurt, but about 64 cows are believed to have perished in the flames.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
