CANTON, Mass. (AP) - A Canton environmental services company has agreed to pay $650,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by the state attorney general’s office.

State officials allege National Water Main Cleaning Co. violated state law by dumping sewage and wastewater in connection with contracts the company held in Boston, Waltham and Framingham.

The Patriot Ledger (https://bit.ly/1HBgIbS ) reports that among other allegations, National Water Main falsified dye tests for the inspection and repair of sewers and drain pipes, and improperly billed for the removal of sewage water.

The company denied the allegations and said in a statement that a settlement to avoid litigation was in the best interests of the business and its customers.

The complaint said the company dumped sewage sludge and wastewater from its tanker trucks directly onto the ground behind its Canton facility.
