BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) - A fire in suburban Portland sent one person to the hospital on Christmas.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue says crews responding to the house fire in Beaverton found smoke coming from a two-car garage and a patient leaning on a vehicle in front of the garage. Part of the garage had been converted to a bedroom and that’s where the fire was contained.

Neighbors helped get the injured person out of the garage. Paramedics provided treatment at the scene before the victim was taken to Legacy Emanuel hospital with an injury described as serious.

Three other people were home at the time and escaped without injury.

The cause of the fire has yet to be released. The Red Cross is assisting those who have been displaced.
