LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan is recommending that nine communities and one state recreation facility share $930,700 in federal grants.

The state Department of Natural Resources says the Land and Water Conservation Fund grants will support efforts to provide improved outdoor recreation opportunities.

Grants have been recommended for Delta Township, Allegan, Marlette, Southfield, South Haven, St. Johns, Muskegon County, Orion Township, Ottawa County and a state DNR facility in Oceana County.

DNR grants manager Steve DeBrabander says “access to quality, public outdoor recreation opportunities not only promotes healthy lifestyles, it also helps local communities create a sense of place while boosting their local economies.”
