PITTSBURGH (AP) - Homicide detectives in western Pennsylvania are trying to find out if a man’s death is connected to a reported attempted sexual assault in a nearby home about nine hours earlier.

Officers in Pittsburgh were called to a Homewood residence early Wednesday, where they were told that a 16-year-old girl and a 6-year-old were inside when a man came in and tried to sexually assault them. The older girl fought him off and the man, who appeared to be intoxicated, fled.

Police said the body of 23-year-old Devin Jackson was found shortly before noon Wednesday in a wooded area off a Homewood alley. Authorities have not said how they believe he died. An autopsy is scheduled Friday.

Public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said investigators believe the two episodes are connected.
