TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - A former honors student at the University of Toledo headed to prison for robbing a restaurant says he threw away his successes for drugs.

Jeromy Danielski (dan-YELL’-skee) pleaded for a second chance but Lucas County Judge Frederick McDonald said he couldn’t ignore the seriousness of Danielski’s crimes.

The Blade reports (https://bit.ly/1AJUc0g ) the 26-year-old Danielski of Perrysburg had a history of prescription painkiller and heroin abuse.

He was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison for the September robbery of the Magic Wok, a fast-food restaurant in suburban Maumee where he once worked.

Danielski’s attorney, Thomas Szyperksi (zeye-PER’-skee), said his client’s actions were the result of substance abuse and show that even someone who is highly educated can screw up in the worst way.
