NEW YORK (AP) - Suffolk County Police say they are seeking the public’s help in locating a Long Island man who set fire to his girlfriend’s apartment before hitting a police officer with his truck.

Police said the encounter occurred about 2 a.m. Thursday in Brentwood. In a release, police said they are searching for Manuel DeLeon Cuellar, who may be armed with a knife.

Authorities say the 24-year-old bearded 5-foot-9, 175-pound suspect broke into his girlfriend’s Westwood Drive apartment, assaulted her and set fire to the apartment. They say Cuellar then fled the scene, striking a responding Third Precinct police officer with a Chevrolet pickup truck.

Police say he crashed the truck nearby and fled on foot. Police say the girlfriend and police officer were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
