SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 51-year-old man has been slain in his home on Syracuse’s South Side.

Police tell local media outlets that James Brown was found on the floor of his home around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday after a report of gunshots in the area. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

A woman in the house told police she heard a knock at the door and then heard shots fired. She called 911.

Officers didn’t see any wounds on Brown at first, but on closer examination they found two small chest wounds.
