OELWEIN, Iowa (AP) - A new home has been found for a dog rescued from an abandoned well in northeast Iowa.

A nearby resident spotted the dog in the well northeast of Oelwein (OHL’-weyen) on Dec. 17. The year-old male pooch was pulled to safety by an Oelwein firefighter and taken to Oelwein Veterinary Clinic to be checked out and to temporarily stay.

The dog’s owner or owners never came forward. Clinic veterinarian Ken McDonough says the dog is scheduled to move in Friday with a family in the Independence area.
