EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - The Eugene Water & Electric Board says two of three floodgates at the Leaburg Dam are not functioning.

The Register-Guard reports (https://is.gd/Kc23eZ ) one gate stopped working almost three years ago, and the utility says a contractor is speeding up repair work to get it finished by mid-January - two weeks ahead of schedule.

It’s important to get that finished because a second gate stopped working this week. Having two floodgates out of service increases the risk of flooding downstream if a major storm hits the region.

The dam east of Eugene was built in 1929. It impounds and diverts the McKenzie River into the Leaburg Canal.
