MONTGOMERY, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say a 25-year-old man led them on a chase through four towns after they tried to pull him over following an armed robbery.

Just past 7 p.m. on Wednesday, police were called to the Sticks Country Store in Montgomery where the owner said a man used a gun to rob the store then fled in a pickup truck.

Police located the truck and tried to pull over Shawn Plante of Milton. Plante took off and led police through Sheldon, St. Albans, Swanton and Highgate before driving off the road in Highgate and running away. Troopers caught him.

He’s charged with robbery, assault and other counts related to the chase.

Plante is being held on $50,000 bail. It could not immediately be learned if he has a lawyer.
