NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Norman police say three people died when two vehicles collided on Christmas Eve on the east side of the city.

Police Capt. David Teuscher told the Norman Transcript in a story Friday (https://bit.ly/1wqpzqz ) that it appeared one of the vehicles crossed the center line before the head-on crash, but that a cause was not yet determined.

A passenger in a car passing through the area saw the accident and called emergency operators.

Norman police said 51-year-old Terry Graumann of Newalla, 54-year-old Michael Rutherford of McLoud and 50-year-old Nellie Billey of McLoud died.

The wreck closed Oklahoma 9 for 4½ hours.

Teuscher said such accidents are always hard, particularly in the holidays, for the families of the victims along with police officers who work the accidents.

The accident remains under investigation.
