POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) - Seven black Lab puppies abandoned in a southeast Idaho parking lot have been reunited with their mother who was dropped off at the back of an animal shelter 50 miles away.

The Idaho State Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1wO7IyZ) in a story on Friday that the pups and 2-year-old mother named Jan are doing well in a foster home.

The puppies were discovered in a cardboard box in Chubbuck on Dec. 7 and taken to the Bannock Humane Society in Pocatello.

The newspaper reported the discovery the next day and a short time later the facility received a call from an animal shelter in Idaho Falls saying an adult lactating female had been left there with a dead puppy.

Officials say the surviving pups and mom immediately recognized each other.

One pup has been adopted, and homes are sought for the others.
