NEW YORK (AP) - New York police say a Bronx man has been charged with raping a woman who was dragged into a secluded area from a street near the Bronx Zoo.

The rape occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on Thursday. Police say Jose Roys initiated conversation with the 51-year-old woman near Boston Road before he punched her in the face and dragged her to a secluded area. Police say he then raped her and fled.

Authorities say Emergency Medical Service took the woman to an area hospital in stable condition.

They say that after police released a video that showed a suspect walking along a street, Roys surrendered. He was charged with rape, robbery, criminal sex act and assault. It was unclear who will represent him in court.
