BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say a 27-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly admitting to a fatal Christmas Eve shooting in Brookhaven.

Police tell The Clarion-Ledger (https://on.thec-l.com/1JTkQYJ ) 26-year-old Demetrius Wilson was shot after returning from shopping with his girlfriend.

Investigators say Yaquilla Washington is charged with murder. He was arrested less than 10 minutes after the shooting.

Police say the two men exchanged words while Wilson was still in his vehicle. Wilson and his girlfriend then drove to a different house to drop off some Christmas gifts, and at some point when she returned to the car, she and other witnesses told police they saw Washington shoot Wilson.

Washington is being held in the Lincoln County Jail.

It was unclear whether he has an attorney.
