CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) - The police chief in the northern Iowa town of Clear Lake has died from cancer.

KIMT in Mason City (https://bit.ly/16TL5PR ) reports that chief Rex McChesney died Friday morning, according to city administrator Scott Flory.

Flory says McChesney was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer shortly after being appointed interim police chief in March.

McChesney began his career with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office in 1983. He joined the Clear Lake Police Department in 1986.

McChesney graduated from Clear Lake High in 1981.
