COCOA, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a central Florida deputy fatally shot an armed man suspected in an earlier shooting.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office reports that a violent crimes task force responded to a Cocoa apartment complex Friday with an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Quentin Smith. Police say Smith had fired a gun nine times into a house owned by his family the night before, though no injuries were reported.

When law enforcement confronted Smith on Friday, officials say Smith initially ran. He then reportedly pulled a gun on one of the task force members, who then shot Smith.

Florida Today (https://goo.gl/26xYFC ) reports that authorities are still trying to determine the motive for Thursday night’s shooting.
