DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - A 46-year-old Durango-area man is accused of holding a woman captive and beating her over a two-day period, apparently with a cast iron frying pan.

Edward Venteroso was being held in the La Plata County jail Friday.

He was arrested after sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call from Kristy Harris’ house Wednesday morning. When they opened the front door, sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Dan Bender says the 55-year-old fell out on the ground on her hands and knees and begged for help. She was bloody and semi-conscious and taken to Mercy Hospital with head and ear injuries.

Bender says Venteroso lived on Harris’s property and had been ordered to stay away from her because of a previous alleged assault.

It’s not clear whether he has a lawyer yet.
