GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - The hospital in Gillette is taking steps to keep people with the flu away from newborns.

Influenza cases are on the rise and new visitor restrictions limit public access to mothers and babies at Campbell County Memorial Hospital.

Mothers and their newborns now may be visited only by their significant others and two additional visitors at any given time. The Gillette News-Record reports (https://bit.ly/13Kd0zM ) children under 12 aren’t allowed in unless they’re siblings of a newborn.

Campbell County Health infection prevention specialist Veronica Taylor says newborns are at higher risk of contracting flu.

She says if any hospital visitors are showing any flu-like symptoms such as fever or cough, they’re asked to wear a mask and stay away from highly susceptible patients.
