BOULDER, Mont. (AP) - A former jailer has pleaded guilty to exchanging cigarettes for sex with three female inmates at the Jefferson County jail.

The Montana Standard (https://bit.ly/1EsoUiB) reported Friday that 45-year-old Rod Mortimore originally pleaded not guilty to seven counts of sexual intercourse without consent. But he changed his plea ahead of a trial that was scheduled to start in January. Details of the plea were not immediately available.

Mortimore was arrested in April. Under state law, inmates cannot legally consent to sex with jail employees.

Mortimore also has denied two misdemeanor counts of selling alcohol to someone under the age of 21. The investigation of a fatal crash on Interstate 15 near Boulder found the 20-year-old driver had purchased alcohol from a convenience store where Mortimore was working on June 25.
