PLANKINTON, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota man is dead after being struck by a sports utility vehicle on U.S. Highway 281 on Christmas Eve.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 20-year-old Hermenegildo Rodriguez Guzman was on the roadway when he was struck by the SUV about two miles east of Plankinton.

The Highway Patrol says the area was not lighted and Guzman was wearing dark clothes. Authorities say the Plankinton man died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities say no charges are pending against the SUV’s the driver, who was following the 65-mph speed limit.
