LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say two men remain hospitalized after they were rescued from a burning mobile home outside Syracuse early on Christmas morning.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says a resident of the Madison Village Mobile Home Park in Liverpool called 911 around 2:30 a.m. Thursday to report smelling smoke and seeing a nearby trailer on fire.

When deputies arrived on the scene they attempted to enter the residence but were forced back by heavy smoke and flames.

Firefighters were able to get inside and remove two men from the trailer.

Both were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where they are listed in critical condition with severe smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
