FRIDLEY, Minn. (AP) - Police say a suspect is hospitalized after being shot and wounded during a six-hour standoff at a Fridley apartment building.

Authorities say the standoff ended with a “peaceful outcome” Tuesday night. The 42-year-old man remains in custody at a hospital.

The Star Tribune (https://strib.mn/1vH6K38 ) reports the standoff began after police received a request to check on a child in the apartment where the man was hiding. Officers went to the apartment and learned the man was inside. Several other people in the apartment were evacuated, but a woman stayed behind.

Tear gas was thrown into the apartment. The woman fled but the man stayed inside.

Officers entered the apartment around 7 p.m. and arrested the man. The woman was not harmed or arrested. Detectives recovered a handgun from the apartment.
