HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut’s governor is designating the summer of 2015 as “Coast Guard Summer.”

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says the idea is to commemorate multiple milestones for the maritime agency and its academy in Connecticut.

The Coast Guard will be marking the 225th anniversary of its founding and the Coast Guard Academy will be celebrating 100 years at its current location in New London. The Coast Guard is also developing plans for a national museum dedicated to its history in New London.

Malloy has suggested to the commandant of the Coast Guard, Adm. Paul Zukunft, that the agency consider sending more ships and aircraft to New London next summer.
