MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (AP) - Officials in Surry County say a 2-year-old boy has died in a house fire in Mount Airy.

Mount Airy Fire Chief Zane Poindexter said the fire was reported shortly before 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

The boy’s name has not been released.

A person in an apartment in the home was treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Mount Airy police and the State Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the investigation.
