BURLINGTON, Mass. (AP) - Seven men and one woman are due in court following their arrests on prostitution charges in Burlington.

Police Chief Michael Kent says the arrests were the result of a sting operation by detectives on Friday. An undercover female police officer posted ads on a website known for hosting classified ads for prostitution services.

Kent says the operation was aimed at sending a “loud, clear message” that there was no room in the town for that type of business.

Police said seven men were arrested after they allegedly tried to purchase sex from the undercover officer. During the investigation, police said detectives also became aware of a woman offering prostitution services at a Burlington hotel.

All eight of those arrested are expected to be arraigned on Monday in Woburn District Court.
