BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - A Bridgeport woman is in custody after police say she fatally shot her boyfriend during an argument in which she says he assaulted her.

Police say Griselle Pizarro has been charged with murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Police say officers responded to the scene early Sunday morning and found 33-year-old Jacob Lopez outside of a pick-up truck. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

On the way to the hospital, Lopez said that Pizarro had shot him. He died a few hours later.

Police say they arrested Pizarro at her house. During an interview, she told police that Lopez physically assaulted her as they sat in the pick-up truck. She said she fired several shots during the assault.

It’s unclear if Pizarro has an attorney.
