CHICAGO (AP) - A federal agent is being treated at a hospital after he was struck by a vehicle on Chicago’s South Side while trying to arrest a drug suspect.

Officials say the Drug Enforcement Administration sustained a head injury and a broken leg and was taken to a hospital in Oak Lawn. The driver, suspected of transporting cocaine, struck the agent who was on foot while driving out of a gas station where agents were preparing to make an arrest. The vehicle was later abandoned, and drugs were found inside.

The DEA says in a news release that gunshots were fired during the incident, and a suspect was treated at another hospital.
