CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - The trial of a man charged with killing his parents with a machete in Iowa is set to begin.

Opening statements are scheduled Monday in the trial of 26-year-old Gordon Lasley Jr. Jury selection was held Friday.

Prosecutors say Lasley killed his parents, Gordon Lasley Sr. and Kim Lasley, with a machete on Feb. 5 at their home on the Meskwaki Nation Settlement near Tama.

Cedar Rapids television station KGAN reports (https://bit.ly/1AU42Lu ) Lasley’s attorneys are using an insanity defense. Prosecutors say Lasley had a history of violent behavior prior to the deaths.
