DETROIT (AP) - Detroit firefighters helped rescue at least 19 dogs, three cats and a guinea pig from a home.

Demetrious Walton, who breeds pit bulls and sometimes sells them, tells the Detroit Free Press that 15 puppies, four adult dogs and the guinea pig all were uninjured following the early Monday fire. The Detroit News reports three cats and a frog also were rescued.

Walton says “that’s a blessing” that the animals are safe. He says the fire appears to have involved the home’s electrical system. No people were injured.

Walton says he was able to get two of the adult dogs out of the house. Firefighters arrived, went inside and helped other animals.

Walton says he appreciates the firefighters’ quick response and says that they did a “terrific job.”
