SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Authorities are calling a suspicious device found in downtown Springfield “hazardous.”

The Springfield News-Leader (https://sgfnow.co/1vD151H ) reports that Springfield Fire Marshals are investigating how the device ended up on Park Central Square. Officials say passers-by noticed a “suspicious looking object” around 9 p.m. Saturday.

Police summoned the bomb squad. A news release says bomb technicians used a robot to take the device to a vacant area and “rendered safe.”

Authorities are using surveillance footage from the area to help determine the identity of the responsible person.
