LIVINGSTON, La. (AP) - After two-and-a-half months on the run, authorities say a Livingston Parish fugitive has been arrested in Texas for robbery, aggravated battery and failure to register as a sex offender.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1qiZ36j) Walker resident Dennis Shampine told police he hitchhiked from Baton Rouge to Beaumont, Texas, where he landed a job at a construction site.

Livingston Parish deputies say Beaumont police arrested Shampine Saturday after he allegedly choked a co-worker at a construction site until he was unconscious, stole the man’s money and took off on foot.

Livingston deputies and Walker police plan to extradite Shampine to Louisiana pending the disposition of the Beaumont case that occurred at the construction site Saturday.

It was unclear whether Shampine has an attorney.
