HANDY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The Livingston County sheriff says a man had been drinking and was speeding without a seat belt when he crashed his SUV, killing himself and his wife.

Sheriff Robert Bezotte says the crash happened about 11:50 p.m. Saturday in Handy Township, about four miles southwest of Fowlerville.

Bezotte identifies the couple as 44-year-old township residents Michael and Maholla Ewald.

The sheriff says the Ford Explorer rolled over several times. He says neither occupant wore a seat belt and both were ejected.

Bezotte tells the Livingston County Daily Press Argus of Howell that it will take about six weeks to determine how much alcohol the driver had in his system.
