SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Corrections officials say a man serving a life sentence for killing his former girlfriend has died.

The Department of Corrections says 60-year-old Steven Crawford of Chester, Pennsylvania, died Sunday at Christiana Hospital after a long illness. He had been an inmate at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna.

Officials say Crawford was convicted of killed an ex-girlfriend in 1988.

Crawford’s body taken to the state medical examiner’s office, as is standard procedure. Foul play is not suspected.
