COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Legislation in Ohio would require that lookalike guns be brightly colored or otherwise marked.

A bill introduced Monday by Rep. Alicia (uh-LEE’-shuh) Reece would require all BB guns, air rifles and airsoft guns stand out in color or have prominent fluorescent strips.

The proposal comes after two fatal police shootings in less than four months of young people holding lookalike guns in Ohio.

Reece named the bill after 22-year-old John Crawford III, who was carrying an air riffle this summer in a suburban Dayton Wal-Mart store when he was fatally shot. A 12-year-old boy carrying a pellet gun in Cleveland was killed last month.

The bill’s prospects in the lame-duck session are slim. The Senate hopes to finish work Thursday, while the House is likely to adjourn next week.
