PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Pierre officials are attempting to make the city more pedestrian friendly.

The Pierre Capital Journal reports (https://bit.ly/12F9gPa ) the city got a $5,000 federal grant to improve “walkability” in the city.

Parks and Recreation Director Tom Farnsworth says city officials and residents will be taking a look at Pierre’s pedestrian traffic patterns over the next several months with an eye toward making the city friendlier to walkers.

Farnsworth says the goal is to give residents the opportunity to walk instead of drive.
