MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) - Pre-kindergarten classes are to coming to the South Pike School?District, hopefully equipping at-risk children with the tools to succeed in ensuing grades.

Superintendent Dr. Estes Taplin tells The Enterprise-Journal (https://bit.ly/1ARz0Eb) the district is in the early stages of adding one pre-K class at Eva Gordon Lower Elementary School and another at Osyka Elementary School for the 2015-16 school year.

Taplin says the plan is to enroll at-risk children in the pre-K program, and an assessment team will be made up of directors, principals and teachers.

Taplin is working to secure a grant from the state.

Should the grant come through, an additional pre-K class would be added at Eva Gordon Lower Elementary School.
