RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) - Law enforcement officers say that a Pavillion man pointed a handgun at police before an officer shot him to death on the Wind River Indian Reservation this summer.

The Riverton Ranger reports (https://bit.ly/1ucQfdw ) that newly released documents state 26-year-old Justin Steele, of Pavillion, was armed with a revolver when he was shot and killed by a Bureau of Indian Affairs Office on July 29.

The shooting occurred after Fremont County sheriff’s officials received a call that a man armed with a handgun had shot out the window of a vehicle near Ethete. Steele was in the vehicle and was uncooperative after a traffic stop.

Law enforcement officers stated that the unnamed BIA agent shot Steele with a rifle after seeing him pointing the handgun at officers.
