NEW YORK (AP) - Prince William and his wife, Kate, aren’t wasting a moment in their short trip to the United States. After a Sunday arrival in New York City, William traveled to Washington on Monday for the day. Kate visited a child development center in Harlem with Mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane McCray.
Here’s a quick look at their day:
Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, earned a new title: Santa’s helper. During a visit to the Northside Center for Child Development, she took part in wrapping some gifts, including a toy butterfly, for the children. The center offers afterschool programs, psychotherapy, parent education and other services to about 3,300 children and families each year.
William spoke about wildlife trafficking at a World Bank conference and stopped by the White House for a quick visit. The prince met with President Barack Obama in the Oval Office, exchanging chit-chat before a media crowd. He took a tour of the White House and met with Vice President Joe Biden.
THE PRINCE AND THE KING
The British royals got a chance to see some sports royalty - LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers playing the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center. Cleveland’s King James had said playing in front of the couple would be a “huge honor.”
A ROYAL WELCOME
The royal couple arrived at their Barclays Center seats with 7:14 remaining in the third quarter. Fans stood and cheered as they emerged from the tunnel and walked along the sideline toward seats near center court. They were shown on the overhead scoreboard with about 2 1/2 minutes left in the quarter during a stoppage of play. Kate, wearing a grey jacket, waved to the camera as the crowd roared.
William and Kate’s first trip to New York City continues Tuesday, with a visit to the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum and a black-tie fundraiser for the University of St. Andrews, where they received their degrees.
