SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A Sioux Falls man has been charged with felony animal abuse after allegedly dragging a bloodied pit bull puppy down a sidewalk.

Police spokesman Sam Clemens says 36-year-old Trinity George Swift Hawk was arrested Saturday on charges of felony cruelty to an animal and false impersonation.

Clemens says a bystander called police after seeing that the dog’s paws were bloodied and that there was a long trail of blood on the sidewalk.

Authorities say Swift Hawk gave police a false name when they confronted him.

The 4-month-old puppy was taken to a vet for treatment. Clemens says he did not have an update on the dog’s condition.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Swift Hawk has an attorney.
