SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A Springfield official is helping collect items for the age group Toys for Tots has the most difficulty serving.

The toy drive sponsored by Springfield Ward 8 Ald. Kris Theilen is seeking to provide the organization with toys for infants. Theilen tells The State Journal-Register (https://bit.ly/1w6uPCN ) that the newborn to 3-year-old age group receives the fewest donations through Toys for Tots. He says most people think about classic toys for older children when they donate and often forget about babies.

Volunteer John O’Shea says the annual effort used to fall short on items for infants, but results have improved since Theilen started holding an event at the local Babies R Us.

O’Shea said the team’s goal is to help the organization provide toys to more local children than it did last year.
